History of the brand
| Despite the reference to French haute couture, that matches Philippe Matignon with a highly experienced designer, the brand is wholly Italian. The story goes that the name Philippe Matignon draws inspiration from a street in Paris, Avenue Matignon. |

Launched to meet the needs of the most qualified specialized retail shops, in December 2003 it became part of the Golden Lady Company Group SpA, European leader in the hosiery market, adding to the other important brands of the group and becoming its flagship.
After the take-over, the Philippe Matignon brand started being sold in goldenpoint retail chain: this fostered and increased the knowledge and appreciation towards the brand in Italy but not only. |

THE '80s
- The machines used in hosiery were mechanical and offered limited possibilities as far as design and development of fashion patterns were concerned. Patterns were drawn manually by designers on graph paper. Fashion colours were mainly used following seasonal trends.
- The first Philippe Matignon article belonged to the Elegant line and it was the Oro 15 den tights. Then the Oro 20 and Oro 40 Extra Matte were developed.
One of the first articles to be launched was Dorella 20, especially appreciated for its glossy effect.
- The coated Lycra was the main innovation in the hosiery sector. Another important innovation was microfiber, in different deniers launched with Noblesse 15/ Noblesse 30/ Noblesse 50.
- In mid '80s, Philippe Matignon proposed the first stay-ups with lace band, now one of its strong points. Other "historical" articles were Oro 15 bas-jarretière, whose band originally had a wavy pattern subsequently modified, and Cristal 30 bas-jarretière. |
